Like everyone expected, Apple announced a new 4-inch iPhone at their media event today. It’s called the iPhone SE (no word on why it’s called that) and has some great specs for the price.
This device looks exactly the same as the iPhone 5s. The sides are square, there’s no rounded edges, and it has an oblong flash cutout. The only difference is that it now comes in Rose Gold as well and it says iPhone SE on the back. The device measures in at 4.87 inches tall, 2.31 inches wide, and .3 inches thick.
Inside in the A9 chip with an embedded M9 motion coprocessor. The camera got some pretty big upgrades as well. There’s now a 12MP sensor with video recording up to 4K. The front camera is the same. However, we do see the same True Tone flash with the iPhone 6s using the display. iPhone SE now has Touch ID, which means that it will also support Apple Pay. We also find the always listening Hey Siri command first launched on the iPhone 6s.
You can pick from either 16GB or 64GB. The device will cost $399 and $499 unlocked, respectively. If you buy it on contract it will be free. You can order the device on March 24 and it will start shipping March 31.
