Due to the lack of a headphone jack on the iPhone 7, Apple today showed off their new AirPods. These are fully wireless earbuds that connect via a proprietary signal. Inside of these is a W1 chip which powers these.
When you pull these out of the case near your iPhone, a menu will pop up automatically on the device where you can then pair them. You can also easily switch them between devices using iCloud. It has things like an accelerometer and infrared detector to know when they’re in motion and inside the ear. It can also detect when you’re talking. There’s also a touch surface on the side that will allow you to pause music and control Siri.
Apple says you will get 5 hours of continuous playback, and using the charging case’s built-in battery, you can get up to 24 hours without plugging into a wall. The AirPods will be available late October for $159.
